Still Reeling...
I'm still reeling after watching Peggy Ahwesh's Color of Love. This film was way more intense than Beirut Outtakes. It was even more striking than Playing Dead by Kevin Everson, which was a really profound statement of what is bad in the world for me because it left no room for debate other than total denial. But that's enough beating around the bush (sorry, pun not intended but it was too good to leave out after I realized it). Color of Love was incredibly difficult to watch. A combination of the Sadistic-Masochistic subject matter, the incredibly close-up, violently exposed vagina that kept returning to the screen, and the soundtrack I think -- When I think back to it I hear only a woman screaming in pure terror. Geez, I can't even write about it intelligently, it's so emotionally jarring and uncomfortable; I wonder why that is? I'll have to quote Electronic Arts Intermix:
Ahwesh subjects an apparently found pornographic film to coloring, optical printing and general fragmentation; the source material threatens to virtually collapse under the beautiful violence of her filmic treatment. What emerges is a portrait at once nostalgic and horrible: the degraded image, locked in symbiotic relation with an image of degradation.
Hmmm, I suppose that makes a little more sense now. Interestingly enough I was watching an episode of DEXTER tonight in which Dexter pursues an S&M photographer (suspected serial killer of course) whose photographs were startlingly similar to the image of the woman being stabbed in Color of Love.

New Sound from Free Sound
I scanned my 3-image loop, and mixed a rough sound track as kind of a work-in-progress:
Phil says it needs more ending, but I'm indecisive about what direction I want to go with it.
